The swept volume of the chainsaw's cylinder, measured in cubic centimetres (cc). It is the single figure most often used to place a petrol saw in its size class, because displacement broadly tracks both power and weight.

Displacement is a proxy for capability, not a measure of it: two saws of the same cc can differ noticeably in power output depending on porting, ignition and muffler design. As a rough map of the market, small pruning and homeowner saws sit at the bottom of the range, all-round property saws in the middle, and felling saws at the top. Battery saws have no displacement at all, so compare them on power output and chain speed instead. Do not choose on cc alone — check the Power Output and Weight rows next to it, since a bigger engine always costs you something in mass carried all day.
