How the DeWalt chainsaw range is organised

ChainsawData holds 14 DeWalt entries, and the first thing to understand is that they are not 14 different saws. DeWalt lists most machines twice — once as a bare tool and once as a kit — so the range is really seven saws in two presentations each. DCCS670B and DCCS670X1 both record a 40.64 cm bar; DCCS673B and DCCS673X1 both record 2.55 kW and a 23.6 m/s chain speed. Same saw, different box.

Every DeWalt saw in the database is battery-powered — there is no petrol model and no corded model. That makes the battery platform the real dividing line in the range, and the line runs straight through the model number: the 62x saws are one platform, the 67x saws another.

The 62x family — short bars. DCCS623B carries a 20.32 cm bar and is the only DeWalt saw in the database with a recorded weight, 2.09 kg; its intended use is stored simply as "pruning". DCCS621B steps up to 30.48 cm and is described for "outdoor jobs like cutting tree limbs and branches". These are limbing and pruning tools rather than felling saws.

The 67x family — longer bars and all the recorded power. Every power figure DeWalt publishes in this range sits here: 1.79 kW on DCCS674B with a 35.56 cm bar, 2.13 kW on DCCS672B with 45.7 cm, 2.55 kW on DCCS673B with 30.48 cm, and 2.98 kW on DCCS677B with 50.8 cm — the longest bar DeWalt lists. Chain pitch is 3/8" throughout the family.

Power does not track bar length here, which is worth noticing before you shop by size alone: DCCS673B records more kW on a 30.48 cm bar than DCCS672B does on 45.7 cm. The stored use classes reflect the same thing — the 673 and 674 are both described for "tree pruning and removal", while the 672 is stored as "heavy-duty cutting, chopping, and sculpting".

The commitment you cannot undo later is the 62x/67x platform, not the bar. Packs and chargers follow the platform, so settle that first and choose the bar length inside it. The full range is listed on the battery chainsaw filter.

Reading a DeWalt model number

A designation like DCCS670X1 has three parts, and only two of them describe the saw itself.

DCCS is DeWalt's prefix for a cordless chainsaw. Every model in this range carries it.

The three digits identify the saw and its platform. The leading pair marks the battery family — 62x saws belong to one system, 67x saws to another — and this is the part of the number that decides which packs and chargers fit. The digits do not encode bar length: the 673 records a 30.48 cm bar, the 674 records 35.56 cm and the 672 records 45.7 cm, so the numbers climb in catalogue order rather than by size.

The suffix is the packaging, not the tool. A trailing B means the bare tool, sold without battery or charger. Anything else — X1, X2, P1, L1, Z1 — is a kit; the letter denotes which pack is included and the digit how many. DCCS674X2 is the two-pack version of DCCS674B, and the database records the same 35.56 cm bar, the same 1.79 kW and the same 23 m/s chain speed for both.

The practical consequence: when you are weighing a B against an X1 or X2 with the same three digits, you are comparing what comes in the box, not the machine. Compare across three-digit numbers to compare saws.
